ABOUT

Meet Heather Kitchen

Heather is a qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher (Level 3 certified) and has been teaching yoga since 1997

Heather teaches through the precise techniques of the Iyengar method, but her understanding of yoga reaches far beyond the mat. She recognises that yoga is a lived experience - something that permeates our daily lives. What we discover about ourselves during practice becomes a catalyst for personal transformation, and the peace we cultivate on the mat enriches every aspect of life. Yoga builds physical vitality, yet it also offers profound mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Heather began her yoga journey in 1995 with renowned Melbourne teacher Eugenie Knox at the "Dance of Life" yoga studio.

Heather began her journey in 1995 with renowned Melbourne teacher Eugnie Knox at the "Dance of Life Yoga Studio". She took to the practice with enthusiasm and, with Eugnei's encouragment, began teaching in 1997. she continued her taining with Knicky Knoff in Cairns and later returned to Melbourne to teach under the mentorship of Frank Jesse at "Clifton Hill Yoga Studio". In 1998, she received her first level of Iyengar certification.

In May 2003, Heather co-founded the "Yarraville Yoga Centre" (YYC), a dedicated Iyengar Yoga school in Melbourne's inner west, which remains one of Australia's largest and most vibrant yoga studios.

During her years at YYC, Heather also began running weekend retreats along Victoria's Great Ocean Road - an offering that continued until relocating to the Sunshine Coast with her husband and young daughter. There, she established the "Maroochydore Yoga Centre", which has since evolved into "Heather Kitchen Yoga". She now teaches in-person classes from her home studio in Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast and creates weekly content for her very extensive Video Library.

Heather has studied, and continues to study with many senior teachers within the Iyengar tradition. She has travelled to Pune, India to learn directly from the Iyengar family, and has participated in conventions with Geeta Iyengar and Abhijata Iyengar hosted by Iyengar Yoga Australia.

With decades of experience and a deep personal journey shaped by yoga, Heather's intention is simple and heartfelt: to connect, to guide, and to share the tranformative gift of yoga with those who are open and willing.
